I have the HP Deskjet 2855e. The cartridge I received from Instant Ink is incompatible with the printer. It is bigger than the cartridges that came with the printer. I’ve seen several answers saying it should work the same, but it does not. The bigger cartridge sticks out so much that the door will not close and it gets stuck when sliding. Please assist

Hi @KMcGaylor,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for reaching out. If the Instant Ink cartridge you received for your HP DeskJet 2855e appears physically larger and prevents the door from closing or gets stuck when sliding, that should not happen, even if it's a newer design. The cartridges must fit properly and allow the printer to operate normally.
That said, HP has updated the design of some cartridges in recent batches (like the 67, 67XL, 305, or 305XL), and while they might look larger or slightly different, they are still intended to be compatible.

one correction on my behalf: my printer is actually HP DeskJet 2734e.
I understand the larger cartridge is supposed to work and I did watch the suggested video. Unfortunately, the cartridge is still too big to be able to slide all the way and does not allow the door to close. I wish I could attach a video, in lieu of that, please see the attached pictures. They show where the new big cartridge is getting stuck and how the door will no longer close.
Please assist, thank you.

Vikram, my friend, thank you for the response.
You have sent me the video before, unfortunately the cartridge is still too big. The door will not close to the printer when the new instant ink cartridge is in. I have not been able to use the printer since the original black cartridge ran out, it is not functioning at all with the new large cartridge. I have a video for reference if there is somewhere I can send it so you can see.
I would like to request more of the small cartridges expedited to my home so I may use my HP Printer again. I am a full time student and have two children also in school, and it has been very inconvenient to not be able to use the printer due to the incompatible ink cartridge. I
Thank you for your assistance and have a nice day.

Hi @KMcGaylor,
Thank you for getting back to us.
After reviewing the image closely, we noticed something subtle but important — the black cartridge appears slightly unseated, not fully locked into place. Since the new cartridges are the longer type, it’s possible that they didn’t fully click into position.
We kindly ask that you try the following one more time:
- Gently remove the black cartridge — you might feel a light release as it comes free.
- Now, reinsert it firmly and evenly into the slot. Apply a gentle, steady pressure — you should hear or feel a distinct "click" when it’s latched securely.
- Once seated properly, the printer should recognize the cartridge and begin responding normally.
That click is your signal that the cartridge is fully engaged and ready to go.
Please let us know what happens after this step — we're hopeful this tactile confirmation will do the trick.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
