Common problems for INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Instant Ink. Check out this link: HP INSTANT INK, HP+ PLANS: INK AND TONER. .
HP Recommended

I have the HP OfficeJet 8720.  For whatever reason, the form wouldn't let me select my product.

Anyway, I am signed up for HP InstantInk, and I got the message to replace two of the cartridges.  I have the cartridges on hand, so I replace them, then the printer said to replace the other cartridges.  So all of the cartridges are replaced, but now my printer isn't printing in color.

What is wrong?

Hi @Joeys72758,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your HP OfficeJet 8720 and the Instant Ink cartridges. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Leave printer ON
  • Unplug power cord from back
  • Unplug from wall
  • Wait 60–90 seconds
  • Plug directly into wall (not surge protector)
  • Turn on

Reseat Cartridges (Very Important)

  • Open cartridge access
  • Remove all cartridges
  • Wait 60 seconds
  • Reinsert firmly until they click
  • Make sure:
  • Protective tape is fully removed
  • You’re not mixing old + new Instant Ink cartridges

Run Printhead Cleaning

  • On printer screen:
  • Setup
  • Printer Maintenance
  • Clean Printhead
  • Run Level 1 first, then test.
If needed, run Level 2 (don’t exceed 2–3 times).

Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Page

  • On printer control panel:
  • Setup
  • Reports
  • Print Quality Report
  • Check if:
  • Cyan / Magenta / Yellow blocks are missing
  • Only black prints
