Why do I have to pay $9.95/month for the printer driver?

There is no "fee" to use a printer driver. If you have an instant ink subscription there would be a monthly fee, but that provides ink and an agreed upon number of pages.  Unless you have unknowingly signed up to some third party that is basically scamming you. Who does the bill come from?

I just bought a new HP7600 tank printer. I was doing the initial setup via the HP web site.  When I got to the step of downloading the printer driver, I got a notice that I have to pay a $9.95/month subscription to Avisio (spelling may not be right).  I didn't download the printer driver and stopped the installation.  ALL of this is on the HP web site.  I never heard of this kind of ripoff for a simple printer driver.  Why does HP do things like this?  This has nothing to do with. ink purchase.

HP does not do these types of things. You are likely the victim of either a mis-directed website or a browser hack. I have escalated your post to the moderators as HP takes this type of activity very seriously and spends a lot of time investigating and fighting these types of incidents.

We understand your concern. HP does not charge a monthly fee to download or install a printer driver. The official HP driver page provides printer drivers at no cost.

The subscription notice you encountered might have come from an advertisement or a third-party website. Please do not enter payment or credit-card information, and do not install the software.

To help us verify what happened, please confirm:

  • What is the complete printer model: HP Smart Tank 7600 series, HP Photosmart 7600 series, Samsung printer, or another model?
  • What is the printer’s product number?
  • Please share the web address or a screenshot of the page requesting the $9.95 monthly subscription. Remove any personal or payment information before posting.

Please let us know the exact model and share the page you used so we can provide the correct setup link.
