I am rolled in the Instant Ink programme. However, I foolishly restored my printer to factory settings and now the printer insists that I should be enrolled in the Instant Ink Programme despite the fact that I very much am enrolled. How to do I get the printer to change its mind?

Hi @Marcia43,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To resolve the issue with your HP ENVY 5050 All-in-One Printer not recognizing your Instant Ink account after a factory reset, you can follow these steps.
Reconnect to Wi-Fi:
- Make sure your printer is connected to the internet. You can do this through the printer's control panel. Navigate to the Wireless settings and reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or the printer's control panel. Sometimes, an outdated firmware version can cause connectivity issues.
Sign in to HP Smart App:
- Open the HP Smart app on your device (available on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android).
- Make sure you are logged in with the same HP account that is associated with your Instant Ink subscription.
- If you haven’t installed the app yet, you can download it from the HP website or your device’s app store.
Link the Printer to Instant Ink:
- In the HP Smart app, select your printer, and navigate to the "Ink" section.
- Look for an option to "Enroll in Instant Ink" or "Manage Instant Ink."
- Follow the prompts to re-enroll your printer in the Instant Ink program.
Check Instant Ink Status:
- Once you’ve enrolled your printer, go to the HP Instant Ink website and sign in to your account.
- Check the status of your printer and ensure that it shows as enrolled. If it’s not listed, you may need to add it again.
Reinsert Ink Cartridges:
- Sometimes, the printer may not recognize the cartridges properly. Try removing the ink cartridges and reinserting them, ensuring they are seated correctly.
After following these steps, your printer should recognize your Instant Ink account.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your reply. I managed to sort out that particular problem.
However, I know have a new one. I used the WIFI protected set up function on my Envy 5500 printer and activated the 'WPS' function to connect the wifi and printer together. However, as soon as I turn off the printer, the printer forgets the wifi link and there is no wifi. To get it working again, I have to do the same process manually each time I turn on the printer.
Can you help?

Hi @Marcia43,
Thank you for your response,
Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or the HP website.
Reset Network Settings:
- Reset the network settings on your printer. This can usually be done through the printer’s control panel. Look for a “Network” or “Wireless” option in the menu, then select “Restore Network Settings” or a similar option.
Reconnect to Wi-Fi:
- After resetting, try reconnecting to your Wi-Fi network using the WPS method again or by entering the Wi-Fi password manually. Make sure the WPS feature on your router is enabled during this process.
Assign a Static IP Address:
- Sometimes, assigning a static IP address to your printer can help it retain the network connection. You can do this through your router's settings. Check your router’s manual for instructions on assigning a static IP.
Check Power Management Settings:
- If the printer is going into a low-power state or sleep mode, it might not be maintaining the Wi-Fi connection. Check the power settings on your printer and try disabling any power-saving features.
Reboot Your Network:
- Restart your modem and router. Sometimes, connectivity issues can arise from the network equipment itself.
Factory Reset the Printer:
- If none of the above steps work, consider performing a factory reset on the printer. This will erase all settings, so make sure to note your preferences before proceeding.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
