Received Nift $30 gift card via email from HP. LOOKED legit so I clicked on the link. It took me to the site but changed the amount to $60. Weird. Next morning I wake up to bank alerts about 3 charges on my debit card that were not mine.... Airline tickets, restaurant and online game. It must have been this link. I reported the fraud. Do not open the link if you get one of these. Of course it's impossible to get a live person at HP to report this...

I trust that you reported it to your banks fraud department.
I did report this to the Moderator so HP can look into this.
Definitely do not provide any identifying formation about yourself or bank card data.
They phished and unfortunately, you bit.
Be careful out there!!

Yes, thank you from me for posting this, too! I just got this from HP.com congratulating me on 5 years with them with the Instant Ink program. I said, before i click on any “free” gift, what’s the catch or spam? I don’t usually click on any links and as legit as this looks and could be, thanks but no thanks for “no” free gift!

Yes! I can scammed about 12 hours after I clicked on what looked like a legit email from HP. There were 3 unauthorized transactions. One was for airline tickets that Chase immediately flagged for me and let me know and 2 others which I disputed. I never use my pin for purchases and I think they got my card # through my monthly HP instant ink account? Of course no one from HP has notified us or answered our questions regarding the numerous posts about this.

I received the email but it said it was my 4 yr anniversary which sounds about right. I clicked the link which took me to Nift's site, which is legit.
The "gifts" are all terrible offers to sign up for some new subscription service for businesses they partner with. I didn't accept any of the gifts which allowed me to submit a form to Nift support telling them that the offers I got were awful and they responded providing me with a new code to try.
Based on the terrible offers and Nift's support response, the site seems legit. It's exactly the kind of "gift" a company as big as HP would think is a great idea for loyal customers.
If it was a true phish, they'd be offering free vacations or big screen TVs or something compelling, not junk subscription services.
Your fraudulent charges were probably a coincidence or you accepted the "gifts". I don't use my real CC # online as my bank allows me to generate unique virtual card numbers for every transaction. So if this does end up being fraudulent and I do get hit with charges, it'll be very easy to know who is responsible since I don't use the same virtual card twice.
I'll report back if I see any hits to my account. That said, don't click on the email because the "gifts" are bad and a waste of your time and an insult to your loyalty to HP, not because it's some very poorly executed phishing scheme.

I received the same thing I was worried if it was legit and but I spent my gift card on a candle with a piece jewelry on the inside of the wax . You have to melt it down to be able to get the jewelry I also had to sign up for a subscription which was fine because I did the trial subscription first at no cost to me. I did receive my candle/jewelry gift and after I received it I cancelled my subscription with that company and that was that.
