I’m currently on the Personal Instant Ink 100 pages/month plan. Since subscribing, I’ve printed just over one-third of the 600 included pages and currently have the maximum 300 rollover pages.
I’m considering adding the Instant Paper add-on, but I’m slightly unclear on what the initial welcome shipment usually contains.
HP’s wording suggests the welcome pack is delivered in “1 or 3 reams”, while replacement paper is later sent based on printer usage in shipments of “1 to 3 reams”.
Can anyone on the 100 pages/month plan confirm what they actually received in their initial Paper welcome pack?

Hi @Subsciption1988,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thank you for reaching out and for the detailed explanation of your setup with HP Instant Ink.
You are absolutely correct that on the 100 pages/month plan, you can build up to 300 rollover pages, and it sounds like you’ve already reached that maximum.
Regarding the Paper Add-on service, here’s how it works:
- The paper add-on is optional and is only sent once you actively subscribe to the paper service alongside your Instant Ink plan.
- For the 100 pages/month plan, the Paper Add-on typically includes 1 ream (500 sheets) of HP paper in the initial welcome shipment. HP mentions “1 or 3 reams” because the quantity depends on the Instant Ink plan level you are enrolled in.
- Once you begin using that paper and the system detects you are getting low based on your printing usage, the next shipment is automatically sent. The replenishment shipments are also generally sent in quantities matching your plan level.
So for your current 100-page plan, you would normally receive:
- Initial welcome pack: 1 ream / 500 sheets
- Future shipments: Additional 500-sheet replenishment shipments when usage indicates you are running low
Also, the paper is not automatically included with Instant Ink itself; it is only shipped if you specifically enroll in the Paper Add-on subscription.
I hope this helps clarify things a bit better. Please let us know if you have any other questions about the plan or how the rollover/paper tracking works. We’re happy to help.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
