They've been saying this for decades. The technology hasn't developed that much!

In case anyone is interested , this is the answer I got when I asked why on chat support ...

Me: Why did my instant ink price increase?

HP Rep: HP regularly reviews pricing and makes adjustments based on market conditions while continuing to meet the needs of our customers. A regular set of cartridge can have a cost of $60 in this case this adjustments are completed in order to keep low prices to our customers and keep having the instant ink cartridges without paying a big amount as the regular store bought cartridges.

ME : So why not implement the change once the current cartridge is depleted ? If it is because there is a rise , we have already "purchased" the cartridge.

HP Rep: Ken, as a friendly reminder, HP Instant Ink are based on pages, not cartridges. You choose a plan based on the number of pages you would like to print monthly. Your monthly fee allows you to use our subscription cartridges to print your plan pages and includes ink or toner, delivery and recycling.

I've just recommended this to friends who now feel I've conned them. I am on the 100 page plan which has gone from £3.49 to £4.49 very unhappy HP.

I don't think they're clever enough to understand your point. The 30 to 50% price hike though is utterly shocking!

50% rise is just abusing customers.  Bye bye HP

I can log in on my laptop as I have done here but when I try to log in with the App no joy at all.

Operating system should not matter looks like they (HP) have not fully tested this App, just like other big companies they assume everything will work for everyone first time eg our good old lumbering HMRC is a good example, computers have not talked to each other since they installed new systems 20+ years ago.

"I am big so I am right" is their reply

Here in the U.S., an increase of $1 ($2.99 to $3.99 for fifty pages per month) was just announced.

I bought this printer in November in part because the instant ink seemed like a good feature.

Now, it looks like a bait-and-switch ripoff.

My plan is also increased with 35% 2,99 becomes 3,99. for 50 pages, after 10 months.

So I pay 8 cent per page! That's no longer a cheap option, because in those 10 months I used only 2 cartridges. (1 black, 1 colour). (Only recently I had to install nr 3 and 4.

I’ve been on the house instant ink program for over two years . Based on fifty sheets per month it seemed a reasonable deal.

The sudden uplift of £1.99 to £2.99 is a hefty price increase, but it would appear that there’s never been a better time to  take advantage.

I’ll live with it for now and look into in a few months . It might be worth changing printer
