Hi @Jillianrusie,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

If you have an HP OfficeJet 5255 All-in-One Printer and you want to print without using the Instant Ink subscription, you can still print normally. Here’s how to manage your printer without relying on Instant Ink:

1. Remove the Instant Ink Subscription:

  • Cancel Subscription:
    • Go to the HP Instant Ink website and sign in with your HP account.
    • Navigate to your account settings and cancel the Instant Ink subscription if you haven’t already done so.
  • Remove Instant Ink Enrollment:
    • You can also remove your printer from the Instant Ink program directly from the HP Instant Ink website by following the instructions there.

2. Install HP Standard Ink Cartridges:

  • Purchase Regular Ink Cartridges:
    • Buy HP ink cartridges compatible with your HP OfficeJet 5255. These cartridges can be found at most electronics or office supply stores.
  • Replace Instant Ink Cartridges:
    • Open the printer’s cartridge access door.
    • Remove the Instant Ink cartridges and replace them with the standard ink cartridges.

3. Configure Printer Settings:

  • Print Without Instant Ink:
    • After replacing the cartridges, you should be able to print without any issues. The printer should recognize the standard cartridges and work normally.
  • Check Printer Status:
    • Ensure that the printer is not prompting for Instant Ink setup. If it does, look for options to bypass or skip the Instant Ink setup during the printer’s initial configuration or settings menu.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Jillianrusie,

Please find the remaining steps below.

4. Reset Printer to Factory Settings (If Needed):

  • Perform a Factory Reset:
    • If you encounter issues with the printer still asking for Instant Ink or if it does not recognize the new cartridges, you may need to reset the printer to its factory settings.
    • Navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults on the printer’s control panel to perform the reset.

5. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Ensure that your printer firmware is up-to-date. This can help resolve compatibility issues with standard cartridges.
    • You can check for firmware updates via the HP Smart app or the printer’s control panel.

6. Use the HP Smart App or Printer Software:

  • Manage Printer Settings:
    • Install the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device, which can help you manage your printer settings and troubleshoot any issues.
    • From the app, you can check the status of your printer, see ink levels, and perform other maintenance tasks.

By following these steps, you can use your HP OfficeJet 5255 to print with standard ink cartridges and without the Instant Ink subscription.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
