HP Envy 5000 series

Hiya,

My HP Envy printer is reading ink levels incorrectly. I wouldn't really care usually I would just put a new cartridge in once the previous one is finished. However, I am part of HP instant ink which automatically delivers the cartridges based on usage and ink levels, but since my printer is reading ink levels incorrectly, I am not getting cartridges delivered to me even though my printer has ran out of ink. So, my question is how do I calibrate my printer so it reads ink levels correctly again?

@Zak14, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Let us try these steps:

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Update the printer firmware

Make sure the printer is connected to the Internet for the Instant Ink servers to monitor the ink level.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello, sorry for the late response. I carried out the steps you told me to take. It turns out there is black ink still left and it is reading ink levels correctly, however the black ink prints really badly and I tried out all the printer's cleaning tools in an attempt to better the quality of the black ink but it didn't help. I am also very sure that if I continue printing for a while the black ink will stop printing again like before. I don't want to continuously take your steps only to have the printer print at a bad quality. It's not the cartridge that's the issue because I had the same issue with a previous cartridge. So, if there's any way you can help me with this issue I'd appreciate it.

P.s. the colour cartridge works completely fine no issues it's just the black ink.

@Zak14

If you have the same issue with 2 different black ink cartridges, it could be the printer that has gone bad. Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
