Hi @KMS29,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

This "Connect Printer" loop on your HP printer is typically caused by a "handshake" failure between your printer's internal Web Services and the HP Instant Ink servers. When the printer says it is "being updated" but shows no progress, it usually means the background communication process is stuck on an expired security certificate or a stalled firmware check, which prevents it from reporting your page count.

  1. Perform a "Wall-to-Printer" Power Reset to clear the update buffer.
    • While the printer is still turned on, pull the power cord directly from the back of the unit.
    • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet and wait for a full 60 seconds.
    • Plug the cord back into the wall (avoiding power strips) and then into the printer to force a fresh connection attempt during the boot sequence.
  2. Manually trigger a Web Services refresh through the printer’s IP address.
    • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer's "Reports" menu to find your IP Address.
    • Type that IP address into a web browser on your phone or computer to open the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
    • Click on the Web Services tab, select Summary, and click Print Info Page to force the printer to "ping" the HP servers and update its status.
  3. Re-enable the connection in your Instant Ink account.
    • Log in to your HP Instant Ink Dashboard on a computer.
    • Navigate to the Status section and check if there is a "Printer Not Connected" alert with a Refresh button.
    • Click Refresh or Check Status in the dashboard while your printer is on, which sends a remote "Wake Up" signal to the hardware to clear the "Blocked Soon" message.

For more specific steps on resolving connection blocks, refer to the official HP printer does not connect to HP+ or Instant Ink guide.

What is the specific model of your HP printer so I can provide the exact menu path for the Web Services reset?

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
