I am very disappointed with HP. I have to print an important document today. And printer won’t print. After many tries and research. We found out it won’t print after subscription is cancelled. Which is ridiculous.
Switching to other brand. Waste of money.

Hi @Sio12,

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer stopped printing after the Instant Ink subscription was cancelled, especially when you urgently need to print. Let’s go through a few steps to explain why this happens and what you can do right now to get printing working again.

Understand why printing stopped
When Instant Ink is cancelled, Instant Ink cartridges are automatically disabled.
This is expected behavior because those cartridges remain HP property under the subscription.

Check which cartridges are installed
Open the printer access door and verify whether the installed cartridges are labeled Instant Ink.
If Instant Ink cartridges are still inside, the printer will refuse to print.

Install standard (store-bought) HP cartridges
Remove the Instant Ink cartridges completely.
Install regular HP cartridges designed for your printer model (not Instant Ink).

Restart the printer after cartridge change
With the new cartridges installed, turn the printer off.
Wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on so it can reinitialize supplies.

Confirm cartridge status in the printer or HP Smart
Check the display or HP Smart app to ensure the cartridges are recognized as standard HP cartridges.
Once detected correctly, printing should resume immediately.

What does not cause this issue
The printer itself is not damaged.
Cancelling Instant Ink does not disable the printer, only the subscription cartridges.

Important clarification about Instant Ink
Instant Ink charges for pages printed, not the physical ink.
Once the plan ends, the cartridges stop working by design—but the printer works normally with standard HP ink.

I hope this helps.

I canceled my subscription and now i am having all kinds of problems printing.

The printer will print all the test pages and information pages but will not print the stuff I need to print. I am getting  message that the ink cartridge is not working. Like I said it prints everything else

I changed the cartridges when I canceled Instant Ink.  Had problems so I assumed I had bought some crap cartridges from Best Buy.  Stuff happens.  Bought more new cartridges - this time Office Max - printer still does not work.  **bleep** have you guys done to my printer?  HP Envy 7200.
