Unable to register Envy 6120e printer to account for instant ink. Message says Printer registered to another account. Error Code: UA_400_EB000U0422.  Inadvertently set up the printer with a US account.  Opened a UK account for instant ink and used different email but I keep getting the above message.

Hi @Ethelreda,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can see why this is frustrating. Instant Ink is supposed to make printing easier, not harder! The error UA_400_EB000U0422 means your HP Envy 6120e printer is still linked to the original HP account (in this case, the US account), and HP doesn’t allow a printer to be registered to two accounts at the same time.

Here’s the official HP way to fix this:

Step 1: Remove Printer from Old Account

  • Sign in to the original HP account (the US one you used first).
  • Go to My HP Instant Ink → Manage Printer → Cancel Subscription / Remove Printer.
  • Wait for confirmation that the printer is removed.

Step 2: Factory Reset the Printer

  • On the printer control panel:
    • Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore → Restore Factory Defaults.
  • This clears previous account data.

Step 3: Reconnect Printer to New Account

  • Sign in to your UK HP account.
  • Open HP Smart app → Add Printer → Follow setup steps.
  • When prompted, enter your Instant Ink enrollment details.

Important Notes

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
