I think it is disgraceful that HP does not make clear the fact that ONLY their instant ink cartridges will work when one is enrolled in the program, and even worse, that those cartridges are useless when one is unenrolled.
Such deceitful practices make me sure not to purchase any HP products in the future!

@JKRowling, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Apologies for the inconvenience. You may use regular HP ink cartridges even if the printer is enrolled in Instant ink. Once the service is deactivated, you will not be able to use the Instant Ink cartridges.
To assist you better, I would require a few more information. I have sent you a private message, kindly revert.

INSTANT INK is a complete scam
You buy a printer, sign up for the "free trial "which it turns out only a handful of pages a month but then get charged for additional pages at an extortionate rate.
My office have used it heavily over October / November and run up bills of £200 and £320 not even using all the ink cartridges that were sent by HP instant ink !
I`m furious and have cancelled the subscription even tho i had 9 "free Months" left . I have de-registered the printer from the programme and it now works perfect with some bought ink cartridges that cost me £25 and have lasted 3 weeks so far !!!
I`m very tempted to sell i on Ebay and never use HP again such is my dismay.
Everyone needs to know about this scam. I would like to know who to complain to in HP who might take this seriously and I`m looking into complaining to other bodies like Consumer rights here in the UK, as running up bills like this should not be possible or right !!
