Hello there, I'm having problems with my laptop's touch screen. It was glitching earlier, then I used a wipe to clean it. Then it glitched again, and I couldn't tap on it anymore. Is there anyone or anybody who could fix this?

Thanks
- Yannick Nickson

@NTCentralVENY, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing issues with your HP laptop's touchscreen, it was glitching, and after cleaning it, it stopped responding to touch. Let's go through a few steps to help resolve this:

Restart Your Laptop

Sometimes a simple restart can reset the touchscreen functionality.

Check Touchscreen in Device Manager

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Human Interface Devices.
  3. Look for HID-compliant touch screen.
    • If it's disabled, right-click and choose Enable.
    • If it's missing, proceed to Step 4.

Reinstall Touchscreen Driver

  1. In Device Manager, right-click HID-compliant touch screen and select Uninstall device.
  2. Restart your laptop - Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Use HP's built-in diagnostics to test the touchscreen:

  • Press Esc repeatedly during startup, then press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Select Component Tests > Touch Screen Test.

Update BIOS and Drivers

Outdated firmware or drivers can cause touchscreen issues.

Check Windows Settings

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchscreen (if available).
  • Ensure it's turned On.

Perform a System Restore (Optional)

If the issue started recently, restoring to a previous working state might help:

  • Search "Create a restore point" in Windows.
  • Click System Restore and follow the prompts.

Important Note on Cleaning

Avoid using harsh chemicals or excessive moisture on the screen. Use a microfiber cloth slightly dampened with water or a screen-safe cleaner. Liquids can seep into the edges and affect the digitizer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
