Hi, i am new to this fourm and was wondering if anyone has had this problem. i have an office jet 4635 and just bought an HP 61XL Combo pack ink cartridge replacement pack from costco and after changing the color cartridge i get a message under ink cartridge(s) problem saying the folling ink cartridge(s) must be replaced. and showing the symbol for the color cartridge. when i put the old color cartridge back in it takes it fine. i tried cleaning the new cartridge but still does not work. So i went to Walmart and bought just a color cartridge marked just 61 and not the 61XL and it works fine.
My question is has this happened to anyone else before and what, if any, recourse do you have with HP on defective ink cartridge products. Luckly Costco will refund my purchase even tho they have no way of knowing if i damaged the cartridge or not, but one might not be so lucky at other stores where ink can be purchased. This is my first experience with this, Thank you.

The ink cartridges do have a warranty (typically two years from date of manufacture) and they can be replaced either by the retailer or HP. See the document here for information.

I would expect the odds of getting a bad HP cartridge at less than 1 in 100, so the odds of getting another bad one would be something like less than 1 in 10,000. Not impossible, but not likely.
