I have a new officejet pro 8710 and it has a wifi direct default password of 12345678. I have gone online on both my laptop and my ipad and entered the ip address of the printer to get to the embedded web server. I then go to wi-fi direct on the left and click on status and on my ipad I am then redirected to a secure https-enabled version of the page. I click on Edit settings here and the password option is grayed out. I can't change the password.

On my laptop I'm directed to unsecure page after being told that someone may be hacking into the page. I click on edit settings and the password option is still grayed out.

How the heck do you change the default password on this printer? Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.  Apologies for jumping in here.

You can change the password through Embedded Web Server.  You are missing Step 3.  Please follow these steps:

1. Key in the IP address of your printer into a web browser  > Network > Wifi Direct

2. Go to Edit Settings

3. Ensure that the connection method is set to "Manual" and then change the password.

Thank you! That did work. I thought by switching to manual I was going to receive a prompt to enter a password every time I wanted to print which I didn't want. But all is good now.
