The printer is connected to my LAN, and an old HP Notebook (DV7) is able to print to it. Trying to connect the printer to a new Windows 10 (64 bit) PC. The installation scan ("Network Check") sees the printer at 192.168.1.6, but "Network Printer Installation" runs for over r minutes, then says "Unsuccessful Network Installation". I've tried restarting my router, restarting the printer, and restarting the PC. I've run the HP Print and Scan Doctor and downloaded and installed the driver (OJ4630_198.exe). Nothing works. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Greetings @LeonKho, I am the @Chimney_83. It looks like you were interacting with @DavidSMP, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.
Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps.
Request you follow the procedure mentioned below to uninstall the printer software and setting completely and install it back.
Set it up using USB connection and then convert it to wireless.
- Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
- Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right-click on the Windows button to access device manager)
- Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
- Click on print server properties.
- You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.
- Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
- Restart the PC.
- Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
- Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
- It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files, ignore them).
- If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
- Restart the PC again.
- Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer.
- Power On/Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
Let me know if this helped.

Hi @LeonKho,
Good Day. Thanks for visiting the HP community. I reviewed the post regarding issues with connecting the printer to the wireless network. Superb troubleshooting and splendid description of the issue before posting. Hats off to you on that score. 🙂 I will gladly assist you here.
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this:
- Did you try to connect the printer via a USB cable and check if it works?
- Did you disable firewalls and the antivirus program during installation of the wireless set up?
For now, try these steps:
- Please ensure that the router broadcasts at 2.4 GHz Band and the wireless mode is B/G. These are the modes and bands in which the printer gets recognized and operates correctly.
- Also check that the router channel is set to 1, 6 or 11. (preferably 11)
- Temporarily disable all firewalls and security software.
- Then run the wireless setup again from this link: http://hp.care/2A344Ha and check if the issue gets fixed.
- If it continues, then perform all the prescribed steps from this link: http://hp.care/2A0emaO to convert a USB connection to a wireless connection.
- This should do the trick for you.
- If it continues, you could try these steps 2 to 7 and later step 9 from this link: http://hp.care/2A0eneS to fix printer offline issues as the printer is seen on the network.
- This should do the trick for you. (please perform these steps one at a time, confirming each time if the issue gets fixed before proceeding to the other step.)
The trick is to remain patient. Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂
Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.

Hi DavidSMP,
Thank you so much for your suggestions! First, to answer your questions:
I have not yet tried a USB connection.
I have already attempted installation after disabling my antivirus and firewall programs (Norton Security).
A little more background:
I was able to successfully connect a MacBook to the printer, as well as the (previously mentioned) Vista (32-bit) Notebook PC.
The router is connected to the Vista PC and the Mac on 2.4GHz.
The Win10 PC which I am unable to connect to the printer has two connections to the router: wireless (2.4GHz) and Ethernet. I tried disabling the Ethernet adapter, and also unplugging the RJ45 connector, and then attempting to connect the printer, but to no avail.
I have used the Angryziber IP scanner to check my LAN, and the results are as I expected and seem to indicate that the PCs , the Mac, the router, and the printer are all correctly connected to the LAN. In particular, the two connections to the problem PC (wireless and Ethernet) are shown.
To me it seems significant that two other computers are already connected to the printer. Nonetheless, I intend to follow your suggestions linearly.
When I first installed my present router (about two years ago), I do recall optimizing the channels on the the router to avoid channels in use by neighbors' routers, insofar as possible. I do not recall which channels I ended up using on the 2.4GHz band, but I will check.
Before beginning, do you think I should try the USB connection? I would need to acquire a USB cable first.
Regards and thanks again,
Leon

I don't think I mentioned that each time I try to connect wirelessly, the installation program displays the printer (on 192.168.1.6). It's just that when I click it and click next that it says it's installing the printer, runs for about five minutes, and then says it failed to connect.
So, I will get a USB cable, install the printer on USB, and use the link you provided to convert it to a wireless conncection. It will take me about a day to do that. I'll advise you of the outcome.
I'm encouraged that this may solve the problem.!

Hi DaviSMB,
I downloaded a fresh copy of the driver (OJ4630_198.exe), ran it, and got to the Connections Options window (2nd screenshot below), selected USB, clicked Next, and got the Connect the USB Cable window. At this point I connected the USB cable but nothing changed; I only had the Back button and a grayed-out Skip button (1st screenshot below). To ascertain that the printer was visible to the PC on a USB port, I ran USBview (see 3rd sreen shot below). Any further suggestion?
