HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 (WF) & 8710

Still trying to decide on a replacement printer for my (two) 6830's thatfailed with printhead problems.  I am currently looking at the HP 7740 (WF) and the 8720 printers.

Unfortunately, I have read contradictory and conflicting information on supported media weights in the 7740 & 8720 specifications and I've read quite a few threads on this forum about problems with printing Index Cards and heavy Card Stock on both the 7740 & 8720 HP Printer Models.

I do need to select a printer that will print index cards (mostly 4x6) and 8.5" x 11" - 67 lb paper stock and don't want to get stuck with an HP paper that claims to support these media types... and then won't!

Can anyone clear up this confusion with accurate information!  That is, will the 7740 (WF) printer and the 8710 printer reliably pick up, transport, and print on these two media types?  4" x 6" Index Cards and 8.5" x 11" - 67 lb (Bristol) Paper?

I need an answer on this ASAP!  Thank you!

ZT

Thanks BH,

I see the specs for the 7740 but are you sure you provided the correct link for the 8720?  ...

This doesn't look like an HP website!

A little more info...

I have already downloaded the 8720 spec sheet which indicates that the printer supports up to 110 lb card stock!

However, I have also read a few threads on this forum from 8720 owners who are not able to print on 67 lb or 110 lb stock.  Some of these threads/questions remain as unanswered or no satisfactory answer has been given!

Does HP stand by the published specifications and is the 8720 truly capable of handling the media weights contained in them?

And, likewise, for the HP 6978...

On HP's Shop Printers webpage the 6978 Specs specify...

Media types

Plain Paper, HP Photo Papers,HP Matte Brochure or Professional Paper, HP Matte Presentation Paper, HP Glossy Brochure or Professional Paper, Other Photo Inkjet Papers, Other Matte Inkjet Papers, Other Glossy Inkjet Papers, Inkjet Hagaki, Plain Paper, Thick, Plain Paper, Light/Recycled

Recommended media weight

16 to 28 lb (plain paper); 60 to 75 lb (photo); 20 to 24 lb (envelope); 90 to 110 lb (card)

Supported media weight

Plain paper: 16 to 28 lb, Bond

However, The downloadable HP Office jet 6978 All-in-One Printer Specifications Table, specifies the following...

Media Weight Supported:  Plain Paper 16 to 28 lb, Bond  ... (Only!)

So which is it for the 6978?

16 to 28 lb (plain paper); 60 to 75 lb (photo); 20 to 24 lb (envelope); 90 to 110 lb (card)

or

Plain Paper 16 to 28 lb, Bond  ... (Only!)
