Good day. Thank you for stopping by the Hp community. Ire ad the spot and will be honored to assist you. Superb description of the issue and terrific attitude displayed as well to try and resolve it. Kudos to you for that.
- Did this occur after a power outage or surge?
- Was there a paper or carriage jam in the recent past?
Let's try these steps:
It looks like a hardware issue and the printer may need to be replaced.
- Perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-ink-tank-wireless-410-series/16180953/model/16180954/documen... perform steps from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer
- Then update the printer’s firmware by following instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c02919168
- Use a USB cable to update the printer’s firmware connecting it to a computer.
Then perform all the relevant steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-5660-e-all-in-one-printer-series/6809225/model/6809226/... (HP ENVY 5640, 5660, 7640, OfficeJet 5740 Printers - 'A paper tray is open. Close the tray to continue.' Message) and this should fix the issue if the printer ha no hardware issues.
