hp6500 officejet e709n
Microsoft Windows XP

I'm trying to connect my HP Windows XP computer to my HP6500 Officejet e709n wireless.   XP computer connects to  router/ internet via Linksys USB wireless adapter which works great.   HP6500 wireless works great on wifi with other PC running W7.   (I still like to  use the XP for photo editing and printing.)

How do I get my XP to connect to the 6500 wirelessly?   Unfortunately, the USB port on the 6500 doesn't work because of lightening strike.  The printer still works fine on wifi with my W7 computer.

Since the 6500 USB port doesn't work,  I am trying to work around the problem by using wifi.   Is there any way to get the 6500 and the XP to link up?

The wired ethernet connection does work from the XP to the rounter.   However, I disconnected it from the XP so the wifi internet connection would work.

Thanks for your help!

Since the printer is already connected via WiFi for other computers, did you install the Full Featured Software and Drivers for Windows XP from the HP web site???

The suggested fix worked!   However, in the setup screen, one needs to select "add device" instead of "set up wireless".  Setting up wireless requires a usb cable connection from computer to printer which I don't have.  The add device doesn't require this connection.   It connected my XP to the HP 6500 via my existing network.  Screen came up "click for test page" which printed immediately.  Then successfully printed a docoment.    Kudos to HP support.  Thanks.
