HP Deskjet 1515
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After the recent Windows 10 update, the HP 1515 is not communicating with my HP Pavillion desktop. The printer is printing correctly from applications like MS Word, but the clicking the Printer Assistant brings up a screen which asks to connect a new printer. Manage Printer prints a Test Page correctly, but Manage Scanner says Connect a Scanner. Have updated the driver from the HP site, and have unclicked all the Allow Windows to turn off power to the USB device options.

Obviously, the USB drive is fine since the printer is printing, but the printer is not communicating with the PC.

I would like to take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums. I understand that you have an HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 1515 All-in-One Printer and it has stopped communicating with your HP PC. The printer does not print and scans either. I'd like to help you with this case.

I recommend you to perform the below steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a solution:

download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software. The HP print and Scan Doctor software will identify and eliminate any print and scan issues.

Once you perform the above steps, please check the performance. If the issue persists then I suggest you to uninstall the drivers from root level and reinstall them using the below steps:

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.

Now please download and install the drivers from this link: http://hp.care/2hKsHzf

Hope this helps. Keep me posted. Cheers! 🙂

Thank you for your detailed suggestions.

Please note that the printer IS PRINTING (for example, print commands from Word or Acrobat are executing correctly).

Also, going to Device Manager, selecting the 1515, then Manage Printer, "Print Test Page" works corretly.

This means that there is connectivity between from PC to the 1515 (to some extent).

The problems are: (1) the HP Assistant on the desktop is not opening the printer page, instead it is going to USB setup which is asking to "connect a new printer", and (2) going to Device Manager, selecting the 1515, then Manage Scanner results in a "Connect Scanner" message.

In this case, would you like to change the steps I should follow to solve the problem? (Or, should I try the same steps?)

Thanks.

You're welcome. 🙂 You are absolutely correct that about connectivity between the printer and the computer is fine.

There seems to be a corruption in the printer's software due to which the HP printer assistant is not opening the printer page. Also, the Manage Scanner results in a "Connect Scanner" message.

Therefore you may reinstall the printer software as per the previous post. This should take care of the matter.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Cheers! 🙂
