Hey people,

 

I work in I.T and we have a lot of HP products including printers. So the printer in question is the Laserjet P4015. It's in one of our branches connected via a server for all computers and laptops to print off.

 

It's been working great but for the last 2 weeks, it only prints after 20 seconds of what sounds like a clean cycle. I have ran diagnostics and everything seems ok.

 

Nothing wrong with the printer as far as I can tell and this is the only issue. The staff in branch are getting slightly annoyed as its near their desk and I haven't been much help either :D. I have never come across this and I'd rather not replace it too soon either.

This model has always been known to be noisey. That said it is possible the fuser is taking to long to reach the correct temp so the motors keep turning until it does and then it picks up the paper and prints. To test have them put paper on the fold down manual tray in the front and open any paper trays. Then have them send a printjob and see if it prints right away or has the delay. If it prints right away then the fuser is the issue. If it is the fuser there is one other thing you can do to get more life out of the current fuser. This printer has a quiet mode whichI think is under the setup or config menu. If you turn on the quiet mode the printer will print slower but since the paper is moving thru the printer at a slower speed the fuser does not need to reach the higher temp needed for the paper trays. The added benefit is the printer becomes much more quiet which I am sure the people in that office will appreciate.

You will have to ask someone to assist you by listening to the printer for more information.  Any audible sounds are usually a bad sign that something has been damaged and needs to be replaced.  Grinding in particular, squeeking too.

 

If there is noone in the office that can help you ask then ship them a temporary printer and ask them to ship that one back to you.  Perform your analysis and send it in for repairs or warranty work as necessary.  When done put the printer back into stock or send it back to the remote office.  Repeat as necessary for the rest of the printers in this office once you know what is going on.

Yeah I guessed it had something to do with fuser and you've described it as it is. Nonetheless quite mode didn't work with the staff. Its one thing or the other. Having it recalled anyway. Do appreciate the help and I definitely look forward to helping others!

Just a quick update, I changed the setting to quite mode and its kinda worked. Although the noise is a lot quiter, it hasn't slowed down the printing time at all!
