A change in the way fonts are generated for print has manifested itself as an error on some HP devices.

The fix for this will require software and/or firmware changes.

The best way to enure you get notified of a solution as soon as it's available is to have a case open with support.

I should have been more clear.

My appologies.

If I am not mistaken, the CEO of HP has laid-off all HP employees. That was proabably an automatted message we all received.

In any case, I've had relatively decent (not perfect) luck with configuring the printer to Airprint. Prints 'most' of the time now.

Unfortunately, I started a chat with support and they are NO HELP. The individual tells me its an issue with the application! Frustrating to say the least.

Same problem here on a network of iMacs, few M605 and one MFP.

The MFP keeps printing with no issues/problem but ALL of the 3 M605 have the "offending command: xshow" problem since the Macs were upgraded to High Sierra.

Tried everything:

- latest HP Easy Start download/install - not solved

- HP drivers 5.1 - not solved

- latest firmware revision 3.9 for M605 series - not solved

- Using AirPrint driver - not solved

As current workaround I've set all the M605 as Generic PCL printers. This way I've degradated printing but at least we can print everything without errors.

Again, the HP MFP is not affected by this issue: a mail or document which is creating the error on the M605 does print perfectly on the HP PAgewide Managed MFP. Therefore it is definitely something related to the M605 software/drivers and not necessarily to High Sierra....

Hopefully Apple and HP will find a resolution asap....

Same for us with German support: They know nothing ... when they are answering request.

We have over 5,000 printers so I'm not sure which serial number to put in at the support page. 😉

Maybe we'll have a "Submit a HP Ticket" party and invite all impacted users...

I have now opened a case with HP for this problem and spent an hour on the phone with a technician. He tried a number of drivers using remote access, and I was able to explain what was happening, either printing correctly, printing with an error message or the printer just firing up and then entering sleep mode without printing anything. I have also sent him some files that don’t print and pictures of the error messages.

The technician said that he was going to escalate the problem in HP and get back to me in a day or two…

In the meantime, I can print most things by using Airprint from my Mac and for those documents that I can’t I’m picking up the document from my iCloud Drive and printing them from my iPhone or iPad using Airprint. This works without error, but the image on the paper is a little smaller doing it this way.

You just need to pick 1 valid  serial number will work to open a case.  🙂

Or if you have an account manager you could contact them.

Thank you for the feedback on support.  That should not be happening.  I will look into it.

Office 2016 apps don't install Fonts to your machine, they are embedded into the applications themselves.

You can find them by right-clicking one of the apps, selecting Show Package Contents, then navigate to ../Contents/Resources/Fonts/

Copy/paste the office fonts located in this directory into /Library/Fonts/ on your Mac.

Fixed the issue for one of my users today.

This doesn't seem to be just a "font" issue. We've experienced it with images being printed and with PDF's being printed "as image".

Also, we've found numerous workarounds that work sometimes but not others, depending on the user and files printed.

What I think most (hopefully all) of us are wanting is a resolution to the problem that's causing this issue so we can prevent it from happening before a user experiences the error when printing.

My printer fleet supports almost 15,000 users who own their own computers. So I can't push out changes like this to their devices. I also can't expect each of them to apply changes to the OS/files beforehand.
