Black ink isn't printing on my printer

Hi @Ola1963,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I'd be happy to help. To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • What is the exact HP printer model?
  • Are you seeing any error messages on the printer or in the HP app?
  • Are you using genuine HP ink cartridges or third-party/refilled cartridges?
  • Did the issue start after replacing the black cartridge, or did it stop printing black suddenly?
  • Are color prints working normally while only black is missing?

In the meantime, please try these basic steps:

  1. Check the black ink level and make sure the cartridge is properly installed.
  2. If the cartridge was recently replaced, confirm that all protective tape and packaging have been removed.
  3. Print a Print Quality Diagnostic Report from the printer.
  4. Run Clean Printheads from the printer maintenance menu or the HP app.
  5. After cleaning, print another test page and check whether black ink appears.
  6. If available, try a second cleaning cycle and test again.

Please let us know:

  • The printer model.
  • Whether the black cartridge is genuine HP or third-party.
  • Any error messages you receive.
  • The results of the Print Quality Diagnostic Report.

With those details, we'll be able to provide more specific troubleshooting steps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
