Product No. G3Q75A MFP227

I've never been more frustrated in my life!  I have an MFP227 with a black streak down the page when I use the feeder for copying or scanning.  I have been going around in circles on HP's site to get a resolution.  I am still under warranty but can't for the life of me find where to contact a human being for assistance.  I cleaned the printer inside and out; discovered that a black streak of ink was on the drum so cleaned that several times but, when inserted, the black line returns.  I don't know where it's coming from, and since I'm under warranty I don't see why I should be the person to figure out the problem.  There is an option to "chat" for the quickest solution.  But when I entered my information (5 attempts), it goes right back to the chat option page.  The chat person never comes online!  And there is absolutely no phone number or email where you can contact a real person.  Now you know why I'm frustrated!

Thank you for the most valuable extra information given to us!

I am 99% sure that your problem will be resolved if you clean the left piece of glass of the flatbed as shown in the below picture:

hp.

You will have to be patient, insist a lot, and use a damp lint free cloth. If the problem persists, then use IPA (isopropyl alcohol cleaning solvent) on the cloth and try again, rubbing for several minutes. It might or might not be visible, only a small little line there, can do this problem appear.

I hope this will help you,

Cheers!

Hi Laura7285,

I will try to help you.

Does this effect with the black streak occur only when trying to copy from the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) ?

Does the printer copies fine through the flat-bed glass ?

Does the printer prints fine all other documents ?

I am waiting for more info on this,

Cheers!

Thank you for your assistance!  The black strip of ink appears on the right-hand side of the drum and marks the pages only when I use the automatic feeder for scanning, copying or faxing.  The streak is not there when I use the flatbed.  I have cleaned off the drum several times but it comes right back again.

Thank you for the suggestion but I had tried that previously and it didn't work.  The problem is that the fine black line of ink is on the IMAGING DRUM itself.  When I wipe it off and try to copy or fax through the feeder it comes back again.  So the question is why is this black line repeatedly appearing on the drum?  I noticed there is a black rubber roller next to the drum and maybe the ink is on that, but it doesn't look like it can be taken apart to clean.

If the problem is ONLY occuring during copying from ADF and not from simple printing or copying from the glass, then it does not have to do with the drum. Focus on cleaning that area. It is something you can't really see sometimes. Maybe it would be a little scratch. If it is a scratch and it cannot be cleaned then you need to replace the whole glass.

Also, rarely, you may find dirt or just a little hair from the other side of the glass (underneath it). You should take a very close and careful look at it. If ithis is the case, you will have to remove the glass and clean it from the other side.

But it IS the drum because there is a black strip of ink around it exactly where the streak comes out on the paper!

It could have been the toner cartridge, where the photoconductor is as well (drum), if the lines were occuring during normal printing as well. I advise you to do as above and save you money of buying a new toner cartridge which will most probably not reslove your problem.

It was as you said --- a spot on the feeder glass.  Thanks for your assistance.
