I have a brand new HP Color laserjet m277dw, it will not show up as a printer option for airprinting from an iphone. It works if directly connecting to the printer (through wi-fi) and eprinting but will not just list the printer as an airprint printer on the phone. I have tried firmware update with no success. Any other suggestions to get the printer to list as an option?

Try this document from HP on setting up and configuring AirPrint:

I confirmed the M277 is listed as compatible for AirPrint.  Sounds like your next step is to make sure the apple device is connected to teh same network as the printer when you want to print from the phone.

I have done that as well. Could there be something on the wi-fi network that is not being bypassed, firewall perhaps?

Lets focus more on step two in the article linked from above.

Is the iPhone connected to the same wireless newtork as the printer?  You would know this by printing off a configuration page from teh printer and reviewing the networking information.  The wireless network information on the printer should be the same as your home wireless network.  Then cross referance this information with your iPhone.  Confirm there is a match either by verifying IP Address, Subnet or network Name/SSID.

Maybe, but you havent confirmed you are actually connected to the same wireless network yet.  Lets confirm everything from step 2 is correct before jumping into extra issues like firewall blocks.

As I said I have confirmed that. They are on the same wireless network...

OK then move onto step 4.

Try navigating to the EWS of the printer from your phone as extra verification that your phone can communciate with the printer over the wireless network.  All you should have to do is plug in the IP address of the printer into a web browser.  If you can reach the EWS then go back to a PC and complete the steps under step 4 for configuring AirPrint.  What you configure here is what the phone shoudl be looking for when its time to airprint.

I was able to get to the EWS on the phone and configured airprint, but it still will not just list as a printer on the phone. All I'm able to do is eprint or directly connect to the printer still. Guess he will just have to use it one of those ways, although I don't get why it won't just list the printer as an airprint device.

My only other thought would be to attempt airprint from another iOS device and see if that one can view the printer as AirPrint compatible or not.  If so then perhaps something on your current phone is not compatible or needs and update.

If two iOS devices cannot use the feature then you have more ammo to go back to HP for support.  Next step would be to call it in under warranty and get a better explanantion as to what could be going on with that feature.

He actually would like a replacement printer, anyone know of a printer that works seamlessly with airprinting?

The M277 is listed as a compatible device so I wonder if we are missing something.
