I've installed this printer on my new HP Probook 440 G5 and it works, but when I try to customise the Printer Properties under Devices and Printers, I get error message 'Function address ... caused a protection fault' and when I click on OK it tells me no driver is installed, even though I've installed it 5 times. When I reinstall the driver and click on Preferences I get the same error message again. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the printer several times.

Hi @Amsterdam2
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Try a root level re-install -
1) In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".
2) Look for HP Printer software.
3) Right-click to uninstall.
4) In the search box, type and open “Devices and printers”.
5) In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.
6) Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).
8) Click on the "Drivers" tab.
9) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.
10) Select Ok.
11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.
12) Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.
13) Restart the computer.
14) Download and install the software and drivers from here.
Let me know how that goes.

Thanks, Asmita, I did all that but I'm afraid it didn't work. However, in the list of programs to uninstall I did not uninstall HP ePrint SW, as I was afraid of messing up the system in my HP laptop. In fact, there were about 20 HP programs listed, some with obscure names, which I don't dare to uninstall although I don't understand what they're good for (this is my first HP computer). I also did not remove HP Delivery Driver V4, because I don't know what it is. If you advise me that HP ePrint and Driver V4 are okay to delete and may be the problem, I'll try again.

Looks for HP printer driver and uninstall them. Do not uninstall any other HP software.

In your reply it was unclear whether I was to also remove HP ePrint SW and HP Delivery Driver V4, but I removed them anyway and that apparently solved the problem. I reinstalled the printer using the Advanced option and when it asked whether to install
HP ePrint I declined. Apparently there was a conflict between that and my older printer (which still works perfectly after 9 years).
Again, I don't know what HP ePrint is and there was almost no user information enclosed with my new HP laptop. If you could refer me to an online User Manual I'd be grateful. And thanks for the tips that eventually solved the problem.
