LaserJet 200 colorMFP M276nw
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

My HP LaserJet 200 colorMFP M276nw was new in 2016 and for the last 5 months on every print job is running the Cleaning cycle. This has become increasingly frustrating to use as it delays all printing as each page printed is requiring the Cleaning cycle to run.

1. Run print job

2. Page prints

3. Display on printer shows "Cleaning..."

4. Cleaning cycle runs

5. Display on printer shows "Device error. Press [OK] to continue.

6. Press OK

7. Goto step 2 again until job finishes.

I have queried this site and others, I just replaced all 4 ink toners with OEM HP LaserJet toner as required.

Still the problem persists....

Paper Settings:

Default Paper Size: Letter

Default Paper Type: Plain

Tray 1 Size: Letter

Tray 1 Type: Any Type

Paper Out Time:  0

Paper Out Action: Overrride

Manual feed: Off

Please help me with this one, I am at a loss why it keeps running the cleaning job.

Is this the drum that needs cleaning?

Why this error after only limited home office use for 2 years.

Thanks!

I have a similar problem with HP LaserJet 200 color MFP M276.  And I have a Printer HP MFP M477fdn
When printing does not print the second / third page (always in a different way), then it gives out "Cleaning", then an error, I click OK and the printer continues printing.
The essence of the problem:
I send to print a document in which there may be 3 or 10 pages. Let's say 5 pages in the document. The printer prints the first page without problems, the second prints dimly, after which "Cleaning" is written on the display. After "Cleaning" the printer again prints the second page already in good quality and continues printing the remaining three pages. Sometimes the printer starts "Cleaning" on the second page, sometimes on the third page.
This problem not only with printing from the computer but also when copying documents from the top tray.
I updated the software, reinstalled the driver, changed computers, changed the cartridges, it's all useless. I suspect that the problem lies in the sensors or in the formatting board.
If you find out the reason, please share the solution. Have a nice day 🙂

You will probably need to replace worn out paper pickup roller and paper separation roller.

I don't know if this will work on this specific model, but it may be worth a shot.. It's not so much a fix as a work-around..

Do as follows;

Go to system setup

Go to Paper setup, then paper type (tray 1 and 2)

Switch paper type for both to heavy

Go back to paper setup - then go into Paper out action

Change this setting to Overide

The pages may print out a little slower, but hopefully they'll print out without having to worry about that cleaning issue constantly.

If your issue persists, it may be a dirty/worn paper pickup roller, as Valsimot implied earlier.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks for the info. I tried cleaning the pinch roller and inside but it still kept cleaning.
I also tried your suggestions with Paper Type and Overide.
Still same cleaning problem so I will have to take it in for a service at a qualified HP site.

Thanks again for the help

This is what seemed to fix mine (although it has only been one day, but seems to be running normally now):

My first question is did you have another HP printer before the one that is giving you problems?

If so, then my solution might work for you.

The issue I had is that I had a HP8610 before getting a HP MFP M281cdw and the software for the 8610 was still on my computer.  So I uninstalled it, BUT I kept getting an error every time I started the computer.

The error said it was trying to find a dll file for the HP8610.  It turns out it was an "ink level" check in my computer's startup programs.

See this link to find the file and delete it:  https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05333619

I also had low toner levels on the new HP which might have something to do with it.  I will follow up if my problem returns or if maybe the toner levels had something to do with it.  But for now I only replace the black toner since I do not need color.
