HP LaserJet 1020 printer
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I would like to use my HP LaserJet printer, which was working previously with Windows 98SE, with my HP/Compaq laptop which is running on Windows 8.1 (x64). My HP/Compaq laptop is not connected to the Internet. However, my HP laptop running on Windows 7 (x64) is connected to the Internet. Is it possible for me to download the drivers for Windows 8.1 onto the desktop of my HP laptop and from there move the drivers into a DVD from which I can install them into the HP/Compaq? Is this procedure possible or is it not recommended. Thank you very much for your suggestions. Robert

Hey @Robert61,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you are trying to download the drivers for your Laserjet 1020 printer on one computer, burn the drivers to a DVD drive, and install on another computer. That should work without any issues.

Hello DocCottle, I downloaded the drivers for Windows 8.1 for the HP LaserJet 1020 printer onto my HP laptop, which is connected to the Internet and running on Windows 7. I then burned the drivers onto a DVD disc and put the disc into the Compaq/HP which is not connected to the Internet and running on Windows 8.1. From the disc I put a copy of the drivers for Windows 8.1 onto the desktop of the Compaq. When I went to install the drivers - lj1018_1020_1022_HB_pnp_win64_en.exe -  I got the following message: Windows SmartScreen can't be reached at the moment. Check your Internet connection. Windows SmartScreen is unreachable and can't help you decide if this app is okay to run. The notice gives me two choices: Run Anyway or Don't Run. Should I go ahead and click Run Anyway? Are there any risks involved here? Thank you again for your help. Robert61

Yes, Run Anyway should be fine.

Hello DocCottle,

Just to say that everything went very smoothly. I did what you told me to do, namely “Run Anyway,” and everything after that fell into place. My HP Laserjet 1020 mono printer, previously installed on Windows 98SE, is running without any issues on Windows 8.1. I am very deeply appreciative to you for your help. Thank you very, very much.
