ENVY 5540
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I bought an HP ENVY 5540 earlier today. I am trying to install it on my MacBook Pro, which is running Mac OSX 10.11 El Capitan.

When I run HP Easy Start, it says "The device was not found on your wireless network. Click Wait to continue searching, or click Reconfigure to start the configuration again from the beginning. Click Cancel to select another device."

When I try to connect manually, the printer does not show up in my Printers and Scanners, even though it says that it's connected to the same wireless network as my computer.

Uninstalling the drivers is not going to help matters over a network. Doing that can make troubleshooting harder because now the Mac won't automatically see the printer.

Alright, since the printer thinks it's connected to a network, try the steps I provided previously. If you are still having issues, this document outlines how to troubleshoot connectivity issues with your printer.

Please let me know the results after following the above.

Hey @Ira234,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I see that you are having some issues with connecting your Envy 5540 e-All-in-One Printer to your wireless network. I can help you with that.

To start, make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. Once done:

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. While the printer is powered off, remove the power cable from the back of the router for one minute.
  3. When the lights return on the router, turn the printer on.

This should allow you to connect your printer. If it does not, click on the Wireless Icon on the printer that looks like a radio tower and let me know the first set of numbers for the IP Address. For example, if your printer's IP Address is 192.168.1.5 then I only need to know 192.

Please let me know the results after following the above. If you can connect the printer wirelessly, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.

That actually DID work.

Then I went on vacation, and the printer could not connect to my laptop anymore. I uninstalled it and tried to install it again, and had the exact problem I had the first time.

The IP Address starts with 192, if that helps. Thanks.

I spent time on the support Live Chat last night and solved the problem. (For lurkers: my network was a 5ghz network, and the printer only connects to the 2.4ghz network.)

Everything works great now. Thanks!
