I just purchaed this printer yesterday and everything seemed to be working fine. The test print and then scan worked with out a problem. Now today I was trying to check something and when I was using the control panel buttons, the back button and the up botton do not seem to work. I have tried all the other buttons and they are fine. I also tried to unplug the print and then pluging it back in. The problem did not go away.

Any ideas on how to get these buttons to work?

Thanks.

UPDATE - The printer is a 3512 not 3510 as previously posted.

As mentioned previously, this printer was purchased on Sunday (3/31/2013).  The printer came with a 1 year factory warranty.  I would advise calling HP Tech Support about this printer due to the issue you are experiencing.

If you are still in warranty, HP may replace the printer at no cost to you. I'll link the information to get in touch with them below. The link will take you to a form to fill out. Once you fill it out and it is processed, it will give you the printers warranty information, a case number, and the phone number to call.

Hey gillisj316,

I would advise a full power drain on the printer if you did not do so.

  • Unplug the printer while on
  • Unplug the other end of the power cord from the power source
  • Separate the power cord and power module in the middle of the cord length
  • Wait 30-60 seconds
  • Plug the cord and module back together
  • Plug the power cord into the printer and plug the other end into a direct wall outlet for power

I also have some information for a factory reset on this printer.  The reset requires using some of these buttons so it may not work, but I will provide the steps in a private message in case it does work for you.  Please read Bob_Headrick's thread on printer resets, found here, prior to performing these steps.

I tried the unplug and plug back in option to no avail. I was going to try the semi-full reset but I realized I put the wrong model number, the printer I have is the 3512. Since I can not get the buttons to work I might not be able to do those resets. Thanks for the help though.
