HP Envy Photo 7858 black setup printer cartridge won't install despite cleaning cartridge & carriage contacts. Tricolor setup cartridge installed with no problem.

Hi @Vin1957
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the "Cannot install black cartridge" issue.
To better assist- What is the exact error you're receiving?
Meanwhile, Let's try a power reset on the printer-
Reset the product
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
Try the steps in the document -Error Indicates Faulty Ink Cartridge
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

The error message read “ cartridge not inserted properly. Remove and reinsert cartridge”. Prior to my post I followed AND repeated all instructions from hp troubleshooting, including the recommendation made by Jay_G24, without success. Even more frustrating is that a setup cartridge is required (a new hp 64 ink cartridge doesn’t work for initial set up) and apparently new setup cartridges are not available for purchase. After additional research, I found that my issue is common and there is a way to override the setup cartridge. Unfortunately, I had no luck locating override instructions for my printer model with my web searches, including at hp, & YouTube. The issue was finally resolved after I returned the printer and purchased a different one.
