Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi, I have this printer in my office that I need to connect to a Windows 7 PC. Unfortunately I spent an entire day yesterday while trying all the different steps mentioned here to no avail. I get that the printer is old but it does print on its own, just doesn't print any jobs from the PC as it just hangs on the "Printing Document" screen.

I don't have a lot of hope from this forum due to my past experience and from what I have already seen mentioned on this topic, however it doesn't hurt to try. So here it goes.

Here is what I have tried so far:

> Tried with the basic firmware detected by Windows 7. (gets stuck at "Printing document").

> Tried to update the driver to the latest version from HP website, no change whatsoever from first step.

> Tried to update the firmware of the printer, had to enable RFU in printer control panel. Turns out this setting is not present at all under "Services". Dead end.

> Tried the older 2013xxx and the 2014xxx driver. No change from first step.

> Tried the lengthy procedure of completely removing all the printers from the PC, removing all print jobs, clearing all printer data from the Print Server, cleared everything from the HP Folder in PrintData, and then installing that "upd" driver thing. Doesn't work. In fact, after doing all that the printer just decided to not print at all, even from the printer itself (as a bonus the Windows update failed and caused me a mild panic attack). After selecting print it would immediately just go back to "Ready". I had to reset the NVRAM to factory settings to get it to print internally at least.

So my question now is, how can I get this thing to work? I have1more printer with the same model number and it isworking fine (Windows 10). Any help will be appreciated.

Two things jump out:

1. You say that another printer of the same model works fine. Is that hooked up to this computer

2. Does this printer work if you connect to a different computer.

If the printer fails to work with a different computer it is quite possible that the printer has a bad formatter. If is a fairly old printer and we have had some come into our shop with failed formatters. If that is the case,  cheaper in terms of time and money to replace.

No I haven't tried hooking that other printer to this Windows 7 PC. But I will try to first print a config page from this printer and compare the configuration info. Then I will swap the printers and see if they work and update here on Sunday. Thanks.

Okay so I swapped the Printers, while it worked fine for a while, the first printer ((P1)which is the printer for which I made this thread) would print on the host PC, but not via network. And the other printer which worked on the Windows 10 PC (P2), worked for 2 prints, but stopped printing again.

So I have put the printers back in their original places, and now Printer 1 is showing me a 49 Error every time I try to print.

I think I will try once again with  P1 on a Windows 10 Laptop, but this just seems to be a lost cause.
