HI sabasarda:

I hope you had a relaxing weekend!

I am not sure if you have reformatted your drive or not.  If you  have, or have not, you can try the HP  printer install wizard click here. This will look for issues and try to automatically fix them. Please let me know the results.

I am glad to inform you that my printer is back on track. I got enough courage to Reinstall W7 from the Factory Image this morning., and I set the computer the way it should have been. I knew something was not right in the set up ever since I brought the computer back from Best Buy ( and I had mentioned that in one of my posts) Too many things did not look right.

I set up my Printer, applied the( Famous) Patch and it stared Printing. I am happy and proud of myself.

I do want to thanks you Mr.Sparkles1, Bob Headrick and Rainbow 7000 for trying to help me.

You guys have a wonderful day, and keep up the good work.

Thank you Bob Headrick for all of the great info in this discussion and the other one you linked us to.  Got my old faithful workhorse 722c now working on my new Windows 7 64 Bit computer via the WINDOWS UPDATE FIND DRIVER step and the PATCH step.   Had to read through it all a few times to really get it.   Just a couple of things here that were not totally clear to me on the first read and which may be helfpul to others doing this fix the first time:

----if your computer does have a Parallel Port, you can use it and a regular printer cable no problem (do not need a USP converter cable).

----the DLL patch file that are putting into the windows folder that Bob outlines is REPLACING an EXACTLY SAME NAMED DLL file that is already in there, so when it asks if you are getting rid of the original file you need to say yes (what i did to be carefull was first went in and simply RENAMED the original dll file that was on the computer, by adding REMREM to the end of the file name, that way it is still there and easy to identify if I ever need it, and then copying and pasting the patch dll file into the folder)

----Thanks again Bob for taking the time to share your knowledge and try to help people.  GREATLY APPRECIATED!

I am glad I could help, it is nice to keep the old printers working.  I will update the original patch post with your observations.

There are actually three separate issues that will need to be addressed:

  1. Most Windows 7 computers do not have parallel ports and the Deskjet 722 only supports a parallel port.  There are USB-parallel converters that can be used, but many of these do not support Windows 7.  Make sure the converter (if you need one) supports Windows 7.  The posts tagged here have models that users have reported success with in Windows 7.  The port you select will depend on the model you have, the port will typically be USB001: or USB002:.
  2. The driver is delivered through Windows Update.  Lately this has been having an issue with the update failing.  To check this do the following:  click Start, Devices and Printers, Add a Printer, Local Port, LPt1: (for now), Next, click on Windows Update and wait for the list to repopulate.  If you get an error "Windows was unable to get a list..." then see the post here for a workaround.    Once Windows Update has completed and the list is repopulated select HP Deskjet 720, Next, Next, Finish.  (Do not print a test page at this point.)  You can now connect the printer cable, then right click on the Deskjet 720, Printer Properties, Ports and select the proper port.  [I have no way to know what the port will be for your system.  Look for a USBnnn: port or check with the documentation for your converter cable.] Once this has completed and the printer shows up in the Devices and Printers folder you can continue to the next step.
  3. Next apply the patch available here that resolves this issue of the spooler crashing.  [While the thread there is archived I just checked the download and it was still active.  I will also attach the patch here.]
