How do I print on card stock?  What settings do I use?

@viclea,

Greetings and Welcome to HP Support Community!

The first step is to determine what type of paper your printer supports. Some printers may not be equipped to handle the heavy weight of cardstock, and trying to print with that type of paper could do damage to your printer. LaserJet and OfficeJet printers can typically handle card stock, though others may not.

Please go through the Printer specifications to know what type of card is supported and what media weight is supported.

This document provides instructions for loading plain paper, photo paper, cards, and envelopes into the printer - Click here

Please ensure you have the full feature software for the printer installed.

  • First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
  • Press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" (There is a space between .exe & /) and press enter.
  • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
  • Again, go to the Run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click here to download and install the full feature software for this printer.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Hope this answers your question.

Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

 My printer is not wired.  It is connected through the internet.  So how do I do what you recommend above?  Also I am signed up for Instant Ink.  Would that effect how I do what you recommend?

@viclea,

I understand you aren't using a wired network, the steps are suggested only to get your printer connected to the device properly, you may then remove the USB, and the same should not affect the Instant ink program, if you need anything else, just let me know and I'll help get that straightened.

Take care now and do have a fabulous week ahead. 🙂
