Hi,
yesterday I set up scanning to email on my new M281fdn, which is working flawlessly so far.
When setting up the scan to email feature, it is possible to fill out a field with a default subject name. Unfortunately this string will be the same for every scan.
I'd like to know whether or not it is possible to have the printer fill out the subject with default entries for date and time of a scan.
Are there variables one can use to insert date and time into this string?
I have tried various lines:
"eMail Scan [Time]-[Date]"
"eMail Scan %time%-%date%"
"eMail Scan $time-$date"
"eMail Scan +%H:%M-%Y.%M.%d"
"eMail Scan $(date +%H:%M-%Y.%M.%d)"
but nothing worked so far...
If someone could shed some light into this, I'd be really grateful.
André

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I'm afraid there is no option to set date and time as default for scan to email feature. Let us try these steps:
- Obtain the IP address of your by pressing the Wireless icon at the top of the printer touch panel.
- Type the IP of the printer into the address bar of your preferred browser (IE, Chrome, Firefox, etc).
- Press Enter to access the EWS (embedded web server) of the printer.
- Go to settings, click preferences > date & time > check the box for "Sync with this computer's date and time settings".
- Once a document is scanned and sent to an email address, you will be able to see the date and time mentioned in the received email.
Let me know how this goes.

Hi,
The printer scans the original and emails it, any information of the sending time or its content is not stored and have no reason to be stored, therefore cannot be populated into the subject.
What you ask for is not available, the scan time appears in the email information and cannot be added to its subject.
