Hp 4700dn color laserjet

I have a machine in a classroom connected to approximately 20 stand alone desktops that all of a sudden last Friday stopped printing in color only black, I printed supplies page, only in black, config page ,only in black. I cannot get it to print anything in color. What am I missing?

First step reset it to factory settings:

MENU -> CONFIGURE DEVICE -> RESETS -> RESTORE FACTORY SETTINGS

Question I have is, is the color missing or is the color printing in grayscale?

Then I would print either the PQ diagnostic Pages or the demo page probably the demo page is better and see if that comes out in color and report the results.

If the test pages come out in color then check the embedded web server because someone may have gotten to that and disabled color at that level.

As a follow-up I would recommend against restoring factory settings to a network attached device unless you're sure you know how to redo the IP configuration in case that gets reset too.

I did not do a factory reset just because of what you said. I have a control board from a cm4730 that I want to try in this machine. I have adjusted the ram chip and removed the hard drive from the 4730 board, my question is will this board do damage to the 4700 if I install it?

Actually the next thing I would do is print a menu map because that has the current settings for all of the options listed in the memory map and look through that to see if anything looked unusual.

You can also post pictures of the menu map for us to look at.

It's been a while but there may be a setting to Auto continue in Black if one of the color toners is low or empty.

If you print the supply status page does it report one of your toners is as being due for replacement?

On a further note it's likely that there are also settings for the color toner that tell the printer what to do when the cartridge is empty or very low, and one of those would be to continue and you can typically get another hundred so Pages out of a color cartridge sometimes even more.
