Can't print from PowerPoint using the default (and preferred) landscape mode. The printer receives the file, but never prints. Switching to portrait mode allows the file to print. Able to print without problems from other applications such as Adobe Acrobat. Drivers are up to date and printer is online.

The resolution of this was to treat the printer as an Airprint printer rather than an IP network printer as macOS doesn't allow third-party print drivers to be installed. By making it an Airprint printer, Apple is able to find and install the correct drivers. So not application specific, but a limitation on using the HP-supplied printer control application to install drivers directly.
