Hello! I hope someone can help with some insight on a printer problem I'm having.
Here goes...
It is almost 1 year out of the box and stopped working. When I turn it on, the amber attention light blinks then stays on. The green ready light also comes on. When I try to print a configuration page a window pops up saying, "Cannot establish two-way communication with the device." It's plugged in and both the power and usb cords are intact.
There is no jam that I can see. I cannot rotate the cartridges to see if there is anything wrong or replace them even if that was the case.
I feel like this happened after I installed the firmware update.
I'm on mac os 10.5.8
What I tried:
• Turning printer off/unplugging holding "x" down for 30 seconds before turning it back on
• Uninstalling then reinstalling the driver from the disk provided in the packaging
• Uninstalling then reinstalling the latest drivers downloaded from HP
• Resetting the printing system from system preferences
• Yelling at it
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm sorry to hear that. I've escalated this to the right people. You should hear from them before to long.

According to the light code you discribed, this document says the printer has had a fatal error. The only thing you can do is try to flash the printer's RAM by doing a hard reset.
To do a hard reset:
- Make sure the printer is on.
- Pull the power cord from the printer.
- Pull the power cord from the wall.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Plug everything back up, and turn the printer on.
If the hard reset doesn't work, you may need to get a new printer.

Thank you for your reply but that didn't work. If I have to buy a new printer it certainly won't be HP. I'm very disappointed. 90 Day warrenty? HP isn't confident that its product will last beyond 90 days? A year? Thanks for trying to help but I'm done with HP.

Do you have the same printer? Have you tried the steps posted above?

Yes, I have tried this.
I will be reporting this problem to the Consumer's Union. I should not have to replace a printer for which I paid $300 less than a year after I purchased it because of a problem related to the HP firmware. This is effectively a scam and I will certainly never buy one of your printers again.

I sent you comments along to the right people. Someone should be in contact with you before long.
