Trying to test this printer after it had stopped registering on another computer.  When I plug it in, in shows up in Devices & Printers as a CD-Rom drive.  Tried to install the driver software; it goes through the install, then asks to plug in the printer, and it sees the printer, then processes 1-99% in about 30 minutes, then sits at 99% for 15 minutes before giving an error that it's taking too long.  I tried running the auto-run on the printer (in the CD-Rom drive) and it just flashes through and "finishes" but nothing changes.  Of course rebooted computer, changed the USB cable... nothing seems to help.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

From the printer screen open the Setup menu and select the Service menu.

Select HP Smart Install and disable the feature.

Restart the printer and check again, it should now be properly detected.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  I knew that's what it was, but I looked everywhere trying to disable that, and couldn't find it.  Even tried the service tool on another thread and it couldn't see the printer to turn it off.  I went through all the menus on the printer and somehow never saw that option.  So thanks again!  It's now working properly again.

Your solution says to select the service menu in the Setup menu of the printer screen.  How do you get to the printer screen?  All that I am seeing is the printer as an optical drive in Control Panel.
