laserjet 1200
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My printer has been working fine for years. I had noise inside my laserjet 1200. I removed the side pannels to check for any paper fragments. When I put the side pannels back together and powered the unit. It went through the normal 3 light cycle at startup but all lights stayed on. The manual says faral error "call HP".

I contacted HP tech. support. After 5 call transfers I was told by the tech. that the 1200 is TOO OLD, HP does not have good documentation on the "All lights are on" error. He had no suggestions.

Is this printer truely dead or did I not reassemble the sidewall properly and there is a sensor triggering the error?

I've tried pwoer off for an hour and disconnecting it from the USB port and power on without the INK. It stays with All lights are on.

I had the same problem as you. I was able to fix the noise but now i have the 3 lights on. Were you able to get it fixed?

When you get 3 solid lights you need to press the go button and usually the light pattern will change with the button pressed down. Report back what is called the secondary code as that will tell us what is wrong. When you release the button the 3 lights will go back to solid again.

I had taken mine apart to fix the loud whining noise.  So after putting it all back together, I got the three lights as well.
But I finally found out what was causing my three lights to be on all the time.  I hadn't re-plugged the mauve/purple wire that goes from the black box (with the noisy spinning mirror mechanism inside) to the side "mother board".  I had forgotten that part.  So once I plugged it back in, the three lights went away and it works perfectly now.
