Unfortunately. when I change one paper type it erases the other. Now it's not printing the envelopes without me having to go to the printer.

You should be able to set a different "Shortcut" for the different paper types, so when it goes to print an envelope, it is set to pull from tray 1 and when you tell it to print a letter it will pull from tray 2.  This is in "Printing Shortcuts" under the Printing Options tab.

I have tried that and every time I get one set and then set the other, the first one goes back to the default. I don't know if my LAN network is doing this. I have a ticket into IT.

Hi, Honor Student and others:

"crankysecretary" has the right answer except there's another step you have to do in the software program you're using.  For instance, I use Microsoft Word to generate letters.  From those letters, I use the Envelope and Labels feature to create my envelope.   Example:  While in letter, I highlight or select the address lines (Addressee, Address Line 1, City, State & Zip).  While the address is highlighted, I press Alt + T E E P to print the envelope.  This Envelope and Labels feature copies the address from the letter and inserts it into the Addressee portion of the Envelope and Labels feature (BE SURE YOU HAVE ENVELOPES SELECTED INSTEAD OF LABELS!)    If you look at the Envelope and Labels dialogue box, in the lower portion there is an "options" you can click.  This is where you need to select Tray 1 for the envelopes again and press "apply."

After I did this, the HP M402dn printed without requiring a manual pressing of the button.  It fed the envelopes automatically.

*Then, when I tried to print a letter --- it began to prompt for pressing the OK button to print.   SO................

I then went to my Microsoft Word letter print settings:   I selected "General Everyday Printing" and then selected Tray 2.

Once I did that, everything worked perfectly.

So.....

1.  Go to your Control panel - Printer Devices - select your printer and make the changes that "crankysecretary" advised - one for letter, then one for envelopes.

2.  Then within your Microsoft Word - or whatever program you're using, make those same settings for Letters and Envelopes.

Hope this works for everyone --- it did for me!   (By the way, "crankysecretary" - without your instructions, probably wouldn't have been able to figure this out!  Thanks!

In software driver settings, try to specify and give a "Paper Type"  for your Envelope print job. that would probably let you by pass the notificaiton everytime..

Hope it helps.
