I just obtained a second paper tray for this printer and I can't figure out how to install it. Is tray 2 different than tray 1?  I have a flap that covers the opening above tray 1 and it seems to interfere with the insertion of the tray. Any advice would be appreciated.

Just to hopefully clear things up. The standard arrangement on this model is 2 paper sources. Tray 1  or MP tray is the single feed drawer that opens at the top of the paper drawer and requires tray 2 to be installed in order for your to feed paper through the MP tray. The actual paper drawer is called tray 2.  This printer will not function without tray 2 being installed.

If you can post back a picture of the new tray you obtained I might be able to tell you what you have.

Thanks for the reply, I see by your illustration that I need a tray 1 and I now have two tray 2's. I have to see if I can obtain a tray 1 for the printer.

Does the tray one fit behind the door flap and on top of tray 2?

There is no actual tray 1, behind the flap there should be some paper guides. Here is a link to instructions on using Tray 1 on this product.

Thanks again this is a confusing thing with the way they refer to tray 1 and tray 2 but there is actually no tray 2 according to the HP support link info you sent to me, it just explains how to load paper in tray 1. I guess I will use the extra tray I have and just switch it when I need it for a different size / type of paper. I don't use it that frequently.

You have been most helpful. Thanks
