HP M477
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear community

I own a HP M477 with ADF

I do not scan very often because this is mostly done on an other printer (HP 15xx series).

When do a single copy or scan than I use the contact surface. Sometimes the scan was not oriented correctly. But I thought it was my fault because I  may not have placed the paper exactly.  Also it was not so important for that copies.

Now I need to do more scans (guess why .... home office due to virus) and used ADF and the result was horrible.

A deviation of nearly 5 mm from top to down. first i also thought it was my fault what ever I do, I don't get rid of this deviation.

Then I remember the misaligned copies in the past and done a test page.
I scanned from feeder and from contact surface.
Result:

- Contact surface  deviation up to 2.5 mm  (why the hell this deviation) and  HP don´t tell me that is designend like that!
- ADF up to 5 MM

==> this IMHO is not acceptable for printer which costs 400€ my 40€ Noname-China fax doing better.

Does anyone know how to get rid of it ? I Already done following
- The printer is always cleaned proper

- Paper is HP copy paper
- Reset printer to factory default,  power reset and start calibration from the WEB.

Thanks for any valuable input.

Best regards Andreas

The accepted tolerance for skew is under 2,5 mm, everything above that needs to be serviced.

You will probably need to get your printer serviced.

2,5mm Tolerance for The ADF or or for the surface scan?

On surface scan I expect nearly 0 (if there is one then this can be easily corrected by the driver)

on the ADF I expect some skew but 2,5  is massive
(we are not talking about the low entry eco model)

2,5 mm is for ADF, higher-level models have lower skew tolerance around 1,5-1,75 mm.

Thanks a lot
Then the scanning system has an issue.

Because the scan from surface has a massive skew  which shud not be there 😞
+ the skew from ADF  makes it unusable.

Does anyone now whether firmware / driver upgrade can solve this?

Its not funny to correct each page by a few degree after scanning.

Need to have word with HP.

This problem ist not present on printers of same price class from other vendors and after some research on internet it looks like a common problem 😞 of this series. After the ADF from my M1536 stopped working as well. HP is on the way to be kicked out .
