When I do your steps it says, "This product is no longer serviced by HP. You may search for possible solutions on this support website." Which is crazy seeing as we just purchased some of the model not more then 2 and half years ago but, leave it to HP to screw people over on the technical support side of things.

Hi @MBoothman14,
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP.
They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number.
Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact.
Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forum
Thanks and Regards,

I have had exactly the same problem that MBoothman14 has described. I have also followed your recommended steps with no success. I still get the same error message that MBoothman14 reports, and my iMac continues to read "HP Smart Install" as an external disk.
I have also been rejected by your website when trying to contact support. I entered my product information and get a message that my printer is no longer under warranty. The website will not give me any phone number for technical support, or even allow me to send an email.
Can you refer me to someone who will be able to help?

After trying many of these steps, deleting the printer, reinstalling drivers etc all to no avail, I found I was able to solve the problem by a fairly simple step recommended in the User Guide: resetting the printer to factory settings. This is from the User Guide:
To restore the product to the factory-default settings, follow these steps. 1. Turn the product off. 2. Turn the product on, and while it is initializing press and hold both control-panel buttons at the same time until all the lights blink in unison.
I disconnected the printer cable before doing the above. After the reset, when I reconnected the printer cable the printer reappeared in my Printers & Scanners list in System Preferences, I stopped getting "unreadable disk" error messages, and I was able to print successfully.
Worth a try for others who have been struggling with this.
