It's not the wifi network.  I can print some PDFs and others that are over 1MB will not print.  It says "printing" but never prints.  Again, it's not the network as soon as I send the job it initiates the printing action but just never does.  Common folks 1MB over wifi is nothing.  There's something with the internal buffering or processing of this file that it will not print.

Very disappointed as I need to print these documents urgently.

@wayne1000000

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw printer and it does not print PDF files that are over 1MB in size. It says "printing" but does not print.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Have you tried to print other non-PDF files that are over 1MB (like Word, Excel, etc.)?
  • Was the printer able to print before without any issues?
  • Did any software changes or updates happen for the printer?
  • What operating system are you using?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

Print the PDF as an image:

  • Open the original PDF file, if necessary.

  • Click File, and then click Print, or click the Print icon (). The Print window opens.

  • Click Advanced. The Advanced Print Setup window opens.

  • Select the Print As Image checkbox, change any other settings as desired, and then click OK.

  • On the Print window, click OK again to begin printing.

  • If these steps resolved the issue, there is no need to continue troubleshooting.

If the issue persists then I suggest you to update the Adobe software on your PC and then try to print.

I hope this information helps. Please let me know what happens. Cheers! 🙂

We have also had huge problems printing PDFs to our M277dw.   Anything in black and white prints fine but anything in colour won't print.  Exact error as you Wayne - it says printing continually but never prints.   We have 6 computers in our office and only the new HP laptop seems to be able to print colour PDFs too it.   We have updated all the software on computers, installed new drivers, updated firmware on the printer and tried click as image - nothing works.

We had to send one M277dw back for an unrelated problem and the new M277 we got back also had the same problem with PDFs.    No one on this support forum had an answer that worked and we now use an old printer for all our colour PDFs - it's ridulous.   We are also having terrible problems with the tonors on the M277 now so are going to ditch it and we aren't buying another HP printer.

Having the same issue.

I was printing several pdfs and suddently the printer stopped printing.

it makes a noise like it will start to print, but it does not.

Tried from 2 diffrent computers in the network.

It prints fine other non pdf formats.

This is a very serious issue.

@mfortes

A very warm welcome to the HP community. A very good day to you.

I understand that your printer too stopped printing the PDF document and does print other non-PDF files properly. Are you using an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw or some other HP printer model?

I would suggest you to update the Adobe software and check if that helps. Meanwhile, have you tried to print the PDF document as an image? Let me know.

Good luck! 🙂

Hi I just purchased this hp laserjet m281cdw printer from Costco. I had the same problem, cannot print pdf . I tried everything I possibly could and still no luck. Finally, I hook up the printer and modem using Ethernet cable, not wifi, everything works great. Seem HP wifi has some issue. Any comment is welcome.

Thanks

I have seen issues in the field where PDF's will not print from cloud storage or shared docs, Microsoft edge, or other web browsers. I would try and save the PDF locally on the workstation and printing it from an Adobe program like DC reader and then troubleshoot from there.

I am not a HP employee. I am a service tech on these forums researching topics and offering my best guess to aide in your troubleshooting.
