Good choice. I have been searching for the same problem as you and gotten nowhere. Did you ever figure it out?

Negative - it's still the same.  I've tried completely removing all the driver s/w, reinstalling, etc.  Everything is up to date.  Same result.  I punted.

It's nuts. All of the spec sheets for the M477 list "600x600 dpi, with 38,400x600 enhanced dpi". Yet nowhere is it documented how to adjust the print driver to this "enhanced dpi"; the quality option is always gray. **bleep**? This problem should have been found and answered on day one! Maybe my searching is missing it.

Couldn't agree more.  These forums have not been helpful to me at all - just your typical copy/paste responses as you pointed out.  I've researched pretty broadly on the issue  (beyond the forums also) with no luck.

@Rumtintin

The term ImageREt 3600 refers to an HP technology developed for laser printing.

Definition here:  Glossary of Specifications

From the statements in the document and after digging around a bit, it appears, that you are correct -  the setting is not available to update / change when using the Printer Full Solution Software.

I would guess, without any evidence to support it, that you could override the print quality setting when using the Universal Print Driver.  Using the Universal print driver may provide other changes to quality or the number of features available when submitting your various jobs to the printer.

It appears that the ImageRet 3600 does provide high resolution printing.

If I am correct,

  • The setting as you describe (and for which you have included examples) it is not adjustable.
  • It should not be necessary to change the setting to improve quality.
  • Try Economode to reduce the print quality.

Thank you, Dragon-Fur.  That's helpful.  Would I be losing functionality by moving from "HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw/M281cdw Printer Full Software Solution" to the "HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PostScript (64-bit)" though?

Thanks again.

@Rumtintin

You are welcome.  Smiling.

I cannot judge accurately whether the Universal Driver would suit your needs.

In the notes provided in the Details page for both Universal Drivers, I found the following in  category "Fixes":

I cannot test this for you:  I have two printers, both high-end OfficeJet printers (8740 and 8630), neither of which are Laser printers.

Ok - thanks again, I'll give it a shot.  Appreciate it.
