I have got my first MacAir about a week ago. When a document is sent to print, it can take 30 minutes to an hour to print a couple of pages. I use the wireless connection. The print dialog and the print queue shows the job is underway, but it takes a very long time before the printer decides to start printing. The printer prints quickly once it gets going.  When my Mac is used with a different HP I have no issue. I am not familiar with the Mac system. I tried to delete and reinstall the printer but it did not solve the issue.  I am a teacher and need to print a lot daily.  I saw that many users got help here. Please, I am desperate for help!

 I use the wireless connection.

This could be a wireless network configuration issue.  The best way to confirm a problem in that area is to temporarily install the printer via USB and see if the problem persists or not. If it does then perhaps the printer needs to be reset to defaults.  I would want to test printing the reports from the control panel if both USB and Network connections are slow to print.

When wireless testing it is imporatant to rule out as much distance and intererance as possible.  You can do this by temporarily standing next to the home router that supports your home network.  Or if you are using the HP Direct WiFi feature on the printer then stand directly next to the printer and test a print job.  The goal is to see if the problem can be reproduced under ideal wireless situations before troubleshooting your normal setup.

Or you could test printing to the HP Printer from a 2nd machine and see if the proble is isolated to your new MacAir PC.

A little isolation testing should help us narrow down the problem and suggest an accurate solution.  Please test the areas I have suggested and provide us with your observations and feedback.

Thank you for your answer. I tried the suggested ideas and here the results:

  • Yes, it prints a bit faster when I am closer to the router.
  • It prints word documents a lot faster than PDF files.
  • I tried two other Macs Book Air and Pro. Both print fast even if they are not close to the router. I tried my MacBook with a different WiFi printer and it printed fast.
  • Where can I find HP Direct WiFi option in the printer's menu?
  • The printer has the USB slot and was used to print from a USB stick. However, in our printer manual, I could not find the option to connect a laptop via USB. Is possible with this printer modelLaserJet Pro MFP M377dw

I will wait for your answer to try more options.
