HP Color LaserJet CP5225

One of our HP CP5225 printers just started making loud noises whenever something is printed.  The noise starts and goes away soon after the print job completes.   Black and white prints still come out ok, but color is printing way off from an alignment perspective.

Below is a link to a WAV file of the noise.  And under that is a picture of roughly where the sound seems to be eminating from.

Thanks for your help!

Since you have more than 1 of these printers I would first remove all the toners from a working printer and move them to this printer to see if that makes a difference. If that does not work, move the transfer belt the same way.

Those are good suggestions.  However, the other CP5225's we have are at other locations hours away.

Hi @TedKovacs,

Since you said that you are having out of calibration problem, I would suggest to full calibrate the printer 3 times in a row. See if that improves the calibration issue. Also, since this printer does not have a component test so that you can test each motor seperatly, you will have to take all the covers off and leave the printer naked but in working condition. This may help you identify easier where the noise comes from. Trying different toner cartridges, ITB, fuser may help you and it could prove time saving.

I hope that helps. Awaiting update on this.

Cheers!

I did try another fuser since I had one on hand, but it had no effect.  I also tried the calibration, but the color alignment remains well over an inch off for megenta and yellow anyway, as you can see from the windows logo on the test page pictured below.   I could throw toners at it too, but I just don't think this issue could possibly be toner related.  With all the noise and the color alignment problem, it seems like a non-toner issue.

If you still think toners would be worth trying, let me know.

First off I would remove the fuser since it may have a burnable fuse to reset the count. Not sure on this model but if you remove before 200 pages it will not burn the fuse and this fuser can then be used on a printer that needs a replacement because of count. You alignment is really off and if calbration does not correct it then there could be an issue with the transfer belt. That could also be where the noise is coming from.

I see that the yellow and magenta are way off calibration. You should check if the laser unit corresponding to magenta and yellow sits properly (it's the top one).

If nothing that me and davidzuts proposed so far has helped towards the resolving of the issue then you will have to check the main gear assembly. Inspect the main gear assembly of any damage, bits stuck in the gears. Manually calibrate it (if you can) or replace it.

I hope this helps,

Cheers!
