Hello @jeffwegl, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP printer.

We appreciate the opportunity to assist you and are glad we could help work toward a resolution. We hope our support has been valuable.

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please let me know the printer's name and the model number along with the network setup of the HP device so that I can assist you further?

However, in the meantime please perform a few troubleshooting steps and give us an update.

Information Required

To help narrow down the issue, please confirm the following:

  • Connection type: USB or Wireless
  • Any recent changes made before the issue started
  • Whether you’ve checked for obstructions inside the printer
  • If the carriage can be moved manually

Perform a Hard Reset

Follow these steps carefully:

  • Turn the printer ON
  • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet
  • Remove the USB cable (if connected)
  • Take out all ink cartridges
  • Wait for 2–3 minutes
  • Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds (to drain residual charge)
  • Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors or extensions)
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer
  • Turn the printer ON and allow it to complete its warm-up cycle
  • Reinstall the ink cartridges
  • Print a test page to check functionality

If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to check for the latest firmware update if available for your printer, using this website.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
